Tips to integrate a new pet at home
If you already have a pet and you want to have a new pet at home, it is important to take into account different aspects so that there are no problems, especially because they are usually quite vulnerable to changes or that are quite territorial.
Therefore, a series of steps must be followed in order to achieve the correct integration of the new pet in the home. It is a process that must be carried out with great care and patience and that we must control at all times to prevent a situation of aggression from occurring.
Steps to integrate a new pet into the home
We must have a space for the new member of the family and respect the space that has the pet that has lived with us the longest. You have to separate the containers to eat and drink and give a new bed. It is important to keep it in a closed room, where the new pet feels completely safe for a few days.
Every day we must gather the pets for half an hour, always avoiding any kind of aggressiveness. You have to let them smell, look at each other or even play with each other, although sometimes it’s not easy.
This routine must be daily, with what we will get that little by little they get used to and recognize that the new pet is not an invader nor an attacker, it is a member of the family. We must always show the same affection to one and another pet, trying to make them comfortable at all times.
Little by little, when they get used to their presence, the time to see each other can be longer, until the door of the room is not closed and you can recognize the house with your new partner.
Sometimes it is not so easy and violent situations can occur. In this case, it is best to go to a professional such as an educator, who will be the one to intervene in situations that we, due to ignorance, cannot control, getting the necessary behavior changes so that they are beneficial for everyone.
