Having a dog carries a great responsibility and when they are small dogs, we must teach them to do many things. It is possible that on some occasion you have been told; teach your dog not to pull the leash when the animal throws a lot when we go for a walk with him. How can we do it?
Tips to teach the dog not to pull the leash when we take it out for a ride
Keep in mind that dogs should learn step by step to walk without pulling the strap when we go for a walk with them. Dogs are not born with that knowledge, so both owner and animal, have to practice together to avoid tugs.
A common mistake that is usually made when the dog pulls the leash is to respond with another pull back. That mistake should not be made and we must remember that dogs learn slowly, at their own pace. If we pull, the dog will stress and respond with more jerks.
If the dog pulls too much, we can stand still or even change direction on our walk, going in the opposite direction. In this way, the dog will learn to be more aware of us and relax in their walks.
To go for a walk with the dog, any leash is not worth it. The most advisable thing is to avoid the extendable ones. The best ones are those that allow the dog to be near the owner and can go quiet during his walk.
As the dog learns step by step, we should not forget to give him his rewards. It is important that the prize be interesting for the dog, enough to worry about doing things well. Sometimes it will be enough to give him caresses and good words, but dogs like sausage pieces or some canine candy.
